How It Works

Recognition that Fits the School Day

Merit is designed around the people using it — teachers who need something fast, students who deserve to feel seen, and leaders who need the full picture without having to chase it down.

1

Your school arrives ready to go

District and school administrators tailor Merit to reflect the values and expectations already part of your school culture — so when teachers log in, everything they need is already there.

  • Behavior categories aligned to your PBIS framework, culture matrix, or school values
  • A school store stocked with the rewards your community cares about
  • Every student, staff member, and class section in place from day one
This important process handles students, staff, and section assignments in one pass — so teachers open Merit to find their class lists already populated and ready.
2

Teachers recognize students in the moment

This is where Merit lives. A student helps a classmate, stays focused through a tough lesson, or steps up as a leader — and a teacher recognizes it right then, without breaking their stride.

  • Find the student by name or scroll your class list
  • Choose one or more behaviors — your school's language, already loaded in
  • Adjust the point amount if needed, or leave the default as-is
  • Add a personal note to make the recognition specific and meaningful
  • Tap Award — the points appear in the student's balance immediately
Need to recognize a whole group? Award an entire class section, homeroom, or custom group in a single action — useful for collaboration projects, field trips, or any moment worth celebrating together.
3

Students see their progress and spend their points

Students log into Merit to see what they've earned, browse their award history, and shop the school store. The experience is motivating without being distracting — clean, clear, and designed for every grade level.

  • Live point balance front and center on their dashboard
  • Full history of every award, including the behavior and any note their teacher added
  • School store: browse items, see costs, and submit redemption requests
  • Leaderboard: see how they rank among classmates
Teachers review and approve redemption requests before any points are deducted — so staff stay in control of the reward experience, and students learn that earning something takes effort.
4

Leaders see the full picture — without asking for it

As recognition happens across the building, Merit assembles a clear view of what's working and where students may need more attention. No spreadsheets. No manual reports. No digging.

  • Which behaviors are being recognized most — and which aren't
  • Which students haven't received recognition recently — inactivity alerts surface them automatically
  • Building-by-building comparisons for district leaders
  • Scheduled report emails delivered to any inbox, on any cadence
Every point awarded and every redemption approved is captured automatically. When a parent asks, when a principal wants to celebrate, or when a district leader needs data — it's already there.
